Created for Necessity, Employed for Passion

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"

Let's build a world. Explore what we believe by writing. In many ways my characters’ experiences with fate, destiny and free-will mirror my own. What is up to us and what isn’t? It’s one of the great questions of the human experience, I think. But no matter what is for us to control, we must own the identity. You’re a writer if you write. Period. Writing is a lovely way to spend one’s time. Enjoy it. And I hope you enjoy my writing here.

Forever YA book club-- and post help!

Hey Guys---

Just wanted to check in. How is everyone? I'm off tomorrow for my best friend's wedding. Crazy, huh? It feels like just yesterday I was WATCHING that movie. Teens--- look it up. Julia Roberts. Cameron Diaz. Epic. And now--- it's us! I'll be sure to take lots of pics for you all but in the meantime I need some help. The lovely ladies over at Forever YA www.foreveryoungadult.com have chosen When You Were Mine as their August book club read--- YAY! You should all join in on the fun because I think it's going to be a blast (details on their website) but I want to do a guest post to go along with the read and I'm fresh out of ideas. What do you guys want to know? What can I shed light on? Is there anything about When You Were Mine or Rosaline or being a writer that you're dying to ask? Then please do! Leave your suggestions in the comments and thank you in advance!

XOXOXO,

COMIC CON!!!!!!

I just landed back in New York after a week in Los Angeles! I had an amazing time with family and friends, and I got to go down to San Diego and attend my first-ever comic con!! It was a crazy, ridiculous, unbelievably awesome experience. As someone who has been a fan her whole life-- of books, TV shows, you name it-- it was incredible to meet so many people who are so passionate about the things they support. From the actual floor just packed with endless booths and costumes and lively discussion, to the panels themselves--- it was a wild ride, and one I'm so honored to have been a part of.

I was on a panel entitled literary franchises in Hollywood and there were so amazing names up there beside me. Margaret Stohl (co-author of the Beautiful Creatures series whose book has just been turned into a movie, and former video game sound editor), Scott Speer (Music video and commercial director/creator and author ofImmortal City), Tony DiTerlizzi (co-writer of The Spiderwick Chronicles and creator of The Search for WondLa series), Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (TV writers and screen writers [X-Men, Thor], and authors of Colin Fischer), Mike Richardson (president of Dark Horse), Rob Reger (author/creator of Emily the Strange, which is being made into a film by Dark Horse Entertainment for Universal) and Mark Frost(Co-writer of TV’s Twin Peaks, screenwriter for The Fantastic Four movies, and author of The Paladin Prophecy). I couldn't even believe I was sharing the stage with these people!

I was by far the newbie in the group, which is always fine by me--- I loved being able to listen to these guys and soak up all their info. I felt like an audience member myself!

Scott and I got there first and I had a chance to chat a bit with him (side note: everyone go see STEP UP! It's going to be amazing!) Such a cool guy, and so incredibly humble. He kept the panel fun and positive, and made sure we ended on the right note by saying, hey, getting to do what we do is pretty freaking cool. Agreed.

Below are some pictures of the day! And no, I didn't get to attend Twilight--- maybe next year?

XOXOXO,

At a Starbucks somewhere in between LA and SD! We woke up earrrrrrrlyyyy

Waiting for our panel to begin! I was a little nervous, to be honest.
 Official comic con name tag!

Let's keep it PG, guys.

People start to come in! I was actually sitting up on the stage alone, at this point, and fielding a lot of photographs. Thankfully, Scott decided to join me up there.

Very happy!

And we're off exploring!

Costumes galore!

Me and the awesome Stacee--- her blog on comic con is rad, btw. Check it out: http://www.toofondofbooks.com/2012/07/time-we-went-to-comic-con-2012.html
 Signing!
 That's a lot of people!

Happy 4th! And Movie Questions!

Happy 4th, everyone! I hope you are all staying cool and eating something delicious. The month of travel continues...next up: brief jaunt to Philly then L.A. and Comic Con!!!!!! I am SO beyond excited and guess what? My panel is right before Twilight! It's going to be a scream-filled day, to be sure. My panel is on book to film so I've been thinking of things people might want to know...will you help me out?

What are some questions you all have about the process of turning a book into a movie (and, of course, the process of bringing When You Were Mine to the big screen)? Help a sister out!

XOOOOOO,

R
